Workshops on 'Free Software'
Hi friends,
Mahiti Bangalore ( www.mahiti.org) has been conducting workshops on effectively using and deploying free software for non profits , educational institutes and civil society groups.Non profits worldwide have been migrating from proprietary software to free software alternatives to reduce the costs.Big companies like google , yahoo etc run their servers on Linux which is free software.
Read all about our workshops here http://convene.mahiti.org ,We have conducted workshops for schools, Non profits and advocacy groups.Formerly called NGO In a Box, we have rebranded it to 'CONVENE'
We are looking for partners to jointly host such workshops in the future across India who can successfully mobilize people who would be interested in attending.Up until now ,we were conducting the workshops on our own.We are looking for partners who are keen on spreading the free software movement

Hi Rajeev
You might want to explore partnerships with Nasscom foundation - they also help nonprofits with technology, organize workshops etc. Search for Nasscom on ngopost and you will find articles about their past work, you can contact their rep Pranay :

Although I hope there is no conflict of interest, since they seem to work closely with Microsoft.
Thanks Parul! Mahiti too does some great work.
Hi Rajeev,
I believe our organizations have connected in the past. We provide non-profits free software through our www.bigtech.in platform. We have also recently initiated free IT skils training (ConnectIT) workshops for NGO professionals; having covered over 300 participants from 220 non-profits in Maharashtra, the next set is happening in Rajasthan. We would be glad to explore possible partnership opportunities.
Regards,
Pranay

Hi Pranay
Yes, i remember Prashant Pandit from Nasscom had attended one of our workshops last year.
We too would be glad to partner with you for such workshops.I only have a question,i see that you give away free cd's of Microsoft software.you will be aware that we talk about free software its different from that.
Unless there is some obligation for Nasscom to stick to Microsoft or any conflicts, we would love to leverage your reach in the non profit sector for future workshops.
Iam thinking of doing 1 in rajasthan,so could be maybe collaborate?
In any case, just drop me a mail at rajeevdotnair at mahiti dot org.
Hi Rajeev,
NASSCOM Foundation's aim is to use technology for the benefit of the under-served; we also work with several NGOs to provide them with necessary software and skills. We currently have five donors on www.bigtech.in including Quickheal antivirus, Eagle teleconfrencing, Busy accounting software, etc for NGOs. Though our aim is the same, the tools might be different.
Do share your plans for your Rajasthan workshops at pranay@nasscomfoundation.org.
