Water So Close So Far
Trekking to get to the nearest water supply down a steep hill, nearly 2 kms away every day is not a joke. Yet these people in this village in Manipur have not been getting water supply in their village since 1995. These poor people have to go to the river bank down the hill to do all the necessities that require water. Till 1995, the village of Tanegapoul had been getting regular supply of water. However since 1995 the government has cut out the supply of water to this village. They had to turn to rain water to take care of their needs but this too doesn't last long and so thy have to trek down the hill they live on, to the nearest water stream to get their water. This is a big cause of concern because as we know that none of the steams and lakes in India goes unpolluted. This could cause a string of diseases that are water borne to these innocent people.A complaint was put forward to the state govt and in turn to the central govt. The central govt has released the funding to the state govt but the state is holding back the schemes and funds from the village. This is the state of affair in Manipur with regard to the state government. This is one of the main reasons for why the economic blockade also started in the first place because of the people's cry for an Autonomous District Council.
