(Ref: Tech-won-do: techniques for effective self-learning) Coming up… a health capsule for all of us! There’s a module on health education that I proposing to append to an activity discussed a month ago ("techwondo-breaking the illiteracy shackles" under the 'education' category). But the preparation for the activity is an activity in its own right. Here goes: Combating the rise of mosquito-spread diseases. There are two objectives in mind: help get the students (students that we may be tutoring under different volunteering activities) started on a real challenge affecting our society and, in the course of the same, provide them numerous opportunities to practice conversational and written English. (By 'students', I mean the ones we are engaged with in our individual endeavours) The module that I have in mind goes this way: 1. Prepare content material on how mosquitoes are the carriers for diseases such as malaria and dengue, how these diseases continue to plague vast portions of India, what can be done to keep mosquitoes in check, etc. [we would have to identify a group of interested target students and seek their participation in discussing this material with them; material to be prepared in Hindi and English] 2. Have action-plans derived from the references / information compiled (in 1 above) > 3. Share some of the discussions (as in 1 and 2 above) during the trip to Kolkata with students of both the Loreto Seldah school and the students of the community (where the LS students go to teach) > 4. Capture the responses of the Kolkata students Won't we benefit ourselves? For won't this mosquito-combat plan provide each of us a kit to fight the scourge in our own neighbourhood.. Hoping to see the next surge in your excitement levels soon! Do post back with your stinging comments… Yours affectionately, aditya adityahahoo@yahoo.com

Aditya, who are the target students? I will be interested in knowing how the students feel about this course, and what levels of enthusiasm they show
