Save Bangalore from noise pollution, say no to honking
How would you like it if I came and made a huge noise right into your ear when you were minding your business. I suppose you would hate it, you would get irritated and even yell at me. What if this happened on a daily basis and by everybody around you? Who all would you pick a fight with or even who all would you tell to keep quiet. Ultimately you would end up feeling just annoyed all the while and get stressed. This is the story of traffic in India, in any city.
Some people, the very minute they enter the roads, they start honking, for no good reason at all.
If there is an intersection in your residential area, you could slow down for a second and drive, no need not honk.
If there is a red signal, the vehicle in front of you cannot and should not move, so you should defenitely not honk there.
If the signal has turned green, it takes a few seconds to gather momentum in traffic, please do not honk.
If there is an old person or a labourer with a heavy load, crossing the street in front of you, have some tolerance.
On a straight road with no intersection, you have no reason to honk. Everybody is driving just as you are. Defenitely no need to honk there and a chance for you to show some patience as Bangalore is a very crowded city.
Near schools, hospitals and in residential areas, have some concern for your fellow beings.
And I have heard people talk that they no longer see much birds in Bangalore. How would they? The birds have disappeared as they cannot stand all that much noise, their ears are more sensitive than that of humans(and of course due to the diminishing green cover).
When you try to tell the person next to you not to honk, either they dont care or they get angry and tell you to mind your own business, when they are not even letting you do the same. So it is important to educate people abt the harmful effects of all that noise they make by honking.
It could lead to hearing loss, stress, irritation, hyper tension and studies have also shown memory loss due to too much noise.
All this and more has been written about a lot of times, but do people care? It is necessary to make an impact in a bigger way.. So we should really get together and organize a campaign on the streets to create awareness about this menace.
