Orissa calls for your generosity

It’s raining floods in India. After Bihar, it’s our north-eastern state Orissa, that underwent the wrath of nature (in partnership with climate change). While we saw a reasonable response in supporting the Bihar flood relief (in terms of cloths and money), there has been far less effort to reach out to the flood-affected in Orissa. It's time to make amends. This post describes ways of contributing [including online donation] to the relief work being carried out by AID Orissa, which works closely with NGO Pratham, the government and other local partners. It also mentions who to contact for donating cloths, in B'lore and elsewhere.

[Update on AID Bangalore's collection drive] The date of dispatching the relief materials to Orissa has been pushed back. Now, you can reach cloths, etc. to us till Oct 21 (the next Tuesday).

[Latest Update] We have planned to combine our cloths collection drive with toys and books (for kids and adults) that people no longer need. Whatever toys you donate/collect will be directed to Toybank (http://www.toybank.co.in/) and the books to Akshara Foundation (http://www.aksharafoundation.org/) and/or old age homes (http://ngopost.org/story.php?title=Old_age_homes_in_Bangalore), all well known in the NGO circle.

My sister in law is pursuing this with her apartment. Hoping something positive comes of it. If we don't get enough material by this weekend do you have any plans of sending in near future for Orissa?

Some arrangement can definitely be made. We may even give a day or two more if some people are certain about contributing. The best thing is to do it this weekend.

I think it is very difficult with such short notice. Will ask her to ping you in case she is able to.

Sure. We will do our best to accommodate her stuff. In case she misses this one, her cloths collection can always be utilized in Karnataka through the likes of the R K foundation.

R K Foundation is the default if we have no other place to give the clothes. A post on the same -
