NGOPost Interview Feature: The Cambodia Project

Cambodia is a beautiful and unique place to visit or volunteer for. It is about two thirds the size of UK, but one of the least-populated Asian countries, bordered by Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. With a coastline on the tropical Gulf of Thailand, Cambodia occupies the heart of South-East Asia and is fast becoming one of the must-visit places in South East Asia. This beautiful country is at peace, and Cambodians are very much focused on building a positive future — for themselves and for their country. Helping them achieve this goal is a dynamic and accomplished team of young volunteers from Columbia University: The Cambodia Project.

During my recent visit to Cambodia in December-2008, I had the pleasure of speaking to Ann Harper Campbell, who consults The Cambodia Project on Public Health issues among other things. I also got an opportunity to speak to Jean-Michel Tijerina in New York. He is the CEO & Founder of The Cambodia Project and has been instrumental in leading the mission to bring about positive, sustainable change in the Cambodian educational sector. Together with Sineng Sil — Director, Bridges Across Borders  he and his team is well on its way to usher in a bright future for the youngsters of Cambodia, which, in the long run, should translate to a prosperous, well educated demographic in the region.

To illustrate their points better, Jean-Michel and Sineng Sil graciously agreed to take the time and answer some of the pertinent questions that may be of interest to our readers at NGO Post.
