National Seminar on 'Conflict Resolution. Peace and Gandhi' on 28th-29th March, 2011
Dear colleague
The Gandhian Studies Centre of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam since its inception has been making persistent efforts to contribute to the corpus of literature on Gandhi. With its proven track, it has distinguished itself amongother such centres. As part of its schedule, it is organizing a National seminar on “Conflict Resolution. Peace and Gandhi” on 28th – 29th , March 2011 in Visakhapatnam. You are requested to participate in it. The aim of the seminar is to offer critical and thoughtful insights into Gandhian Philosophy of Conflict Resolution. Your participationn in it by way of presenting a scholarly and analytical paper would augur well for the discourse on Gandhian thought and contribute substantially to the understanding of the subject.

CALLL FOR PAPERS
Papers containing incisive and critical analysis of Gandhian methods vis-a-vis conflict resolution, not exceeding 3000 words accompanied by an abstract of 200 words are invited. The last date for receipt of abstracts is 15th March, 2011 and for the full length papers cane be sent to aungsc@gmail.com on or before 20th March, 2011. The centre proposes to publish the proceedings of the seminar.

THEME OF THE SEMINAR
Gandhi was a life long practioner of conducting major public conflicts and a profound conflict theorist. His method of conflict resolution set the tone for the phenomenal growth of conflict resolution literature. For Gandhi, it was not only a method of conducting conflict but it was also a way of life, of living in Truth. Gandhian view of conflict suggests that conflicts need not be seen as problems instead it suggests that they should be seen as opportunities for moral growth and transformation. The essence of his method of conflict resolution is to liquidate antagonisms but not antagonists themselves and there is no rancour left behind, and in the end the enemies are converted into friends.
