The Times of India's Lead India campaign is a nation-wide search for India's next great political leaders. They are inviting the young, well-educated citizens of India to step forward and bring about a change in Indian politics.

The Lead India programme shall evaluate applicants on attributes relevant to the political system – like the ability to conceive goals for the nation, a sense of social responsibility, the capability to translate the vision for the nation into specific, pragmatic action points, the ability to rally people around ideas, the ability to execute and resilience. The Times of India will arrange for a corpus of Rs. 50 Lakhs for funding a project of choice for the final Lead India winner. The programme and the results will be highlighted in the newspaper and on television. TOI will also arrange for the winner to undergo a Leadership Development programme at the John F Kennedy School of Political Leadership at Harvard University.

To apply, please fill out the attached application form and email it to leadindia@timesgroup.com

This is interesting. While the motives for ToI to do this are not clear: is it a publicity/show for them like the several talent hunt programs on Zee/Star/Sony, or is it really a sincere effort from them to bring out the best political talents.

Whatever it is, it may actually do some good, especially in motivating people to think fresh about politics/leadership. And extrapolating the fact that several of TV show talents have gone on to make it big in the real world, we may actually end up with some good talent political leaders show up. Political parties have an incentive to include these newly famous and young people (remember Smriti Iraani, Govinda, Nitish Bharadwaj, Vinod Khanna, Dharmendra....).
