I am a breast cancer survivor and that the cause is near and dear to me. This year I will celebrate 4 years of survivorship! What a milestone. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my children were 6 months old and 2 years old. I knew a little about breast cancer and I donated every year, but I didn’t know that I was in for a tough road to recovery and survivorship. On November 29, 2005, I had the first in a series of major surgeries, it left me unable to care for myself and my children temporarily, but I received help from a small non-profit group of survivors in the Phoenix area. Their support was so inspiring that this year on November 29, 2009, I am launching a non-profit organization in Orange County called Helping Mothers Survive Breast Cancer (www.HMSBC.org)
Helping Mothers Survive Breast Cancer is a non-profit organization founded by a cancer survivor dedicated to addressing the unique challenges facing mothers, who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. The purpose is to enrich the lives of breast cancer patients by providing education, counseling, and support to mothers of school-aged children as they progress through their cancer treatments and recovery.
HMSBC is in its' beginning stages as a local non-profit organization, your contribution will directly support our efforts to expand services to mothers with breast cancer. HMSBC offers all of our programs and services to participants at no cost. All donations made to HMSBC are tax-deductible. I have already begun planning 2 fundraising events to spread the word and reach out to more families in South Orange County.
By helping me reach my initial goal of raising $1,000 to launch HMSBC you will be helping one mother who survived breast cancer make a difference in the lives of newly diagnosed mothers with breast cancer.
