Subject: Smiles32 project

Dear Ms. Chandni,
Thank you for taking
out the time to listen and offering your help in spreading the word.

Smiles32 – is a project for spreading healthy smiles.
It’s a social service project taken up by a group
of young dentists and people from other walks of life to spread oral hygiene
awareness among the underprivileged people.

Most people are not aware of the hazards of poor
oral hygiene. Bad oral health and dental problems causes poor self-esteem,
increased risk of heart disease, preterm delivery, oral cancer etc. Medical studies
have shown that oral health is related to general health and vice versa. Many
people suffer due to ignorance and poor availability of services.
The group sees the possibility of making a
difference in the quality of the lives of the underprivileged by spreading oral
hygiene awareness among them. As the group grows, it would like to spread
to various places across Mumbai and outside Mumbai.

-
The group
plans to conduct oral hygiene and dental check-up camps for the elderly in old
age homes, pregnant women in municipal hospitals, people who are physically
challenged and those with other special needs amongst the underprivileged
people.
-
Looking
for people or companies or sponsors to provide free toothbrushes for the
people. (Oral B has told us that they can give us 1 toothbrush free for every 1 brush purchased and Colgate told us they will give us 1 free for every 12 brushes bought by us.)
-      We are open to
conducting similar camps in various NGOs or slums.
-
If
someone is willing to provide the materials required for simple treatments,
then the dentists (including me) are willing to offer for some people free treatment if
required.

For more information, please contact Dr. Manasi
Bhargava (working at Kemps Corner) at 9819181920.

On 2.10.2011 the group conducted a
dental check-up camp for the children and adult staff of the orphanage St.
Joseph ’s Home, Byculla (West) which was much appreciated by all concerned.
On 9.10.2011 from 11am to 1pm, the group will
be conducting a dental check-up camp for the children of orphanage Seva Sadan,
Gamdevi.
On 9.10.2011 from 3pm to 4.30pm, they will be
conducting a dental check-up camp for the seniors at the Old age home and the
girl children of the Shelter of the Salvation Army, Byculla (West).

At the camp, along with doing dental check-ups,
the group demonstrates how to keep good oral health (simple practical tips),
and distribute free toothpaste & brushes, dental information leaflets in
Hindi, Marathi, English to those who participate in the camp.
