GRACE & GLORY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Child education is one of the most important social infrastructures for our Mercy Welfare Society. MWS believes that through providing education to the children, there will be seen more participating of community people and it can change the whole environment of community and lead them to improve their living standards. By taking this ideology MWS has established a community based primary education called Grace & Glory Primary School at Gautampuri an authorized colony by the Govt. of Delhi. This is only one primary based English medium school in this colony. A brief report of school activities are as follows.
G&G P School Is under Mercy Welfare Society a registered NGO. This school was founded in the year 2001 with very few 8 students and with one teacher at Gautampur Colony. Since the year 2001 it has been running in a very progressive way. Now through the help and the deep participation of our local community people, we have 226 students and 15 staff.
GENERAL BACKGROUND OF CHILDREN
Parents sending their children to Grace & Glory Primary School belong to a socially and economically backward sections of the society. They are disadvantaged and unknown to the schemes being implemented by the Govt. of India. They don’t have economic security and they are all home maid servants, sweepers, vegetable sellers and Rickshaw pullers. Their monthly income is below Rs. 2000/-. However through the counseling of Mercy Welfare Society they have understood the value of education for their children and they are sending them regularly to G&G Primary School. The school has charged these parents to collect a minimum monthly fee of Rs. 50/- from each child.

About Sewing Center
Our sewing center project also going very well, last year 10 girls have completed one year’s course and received Certificate. Many more around 14 young girls have also got admission in sewing center, which is running in one room of our school building. All young girls are taking very much interest in sewing center.
In year of 2000 The Sewing Center was our first step for the community development work. Through this center till last year 2008 we trained maximum 120 Girls and women have been trained and 30%. Per cent girls doing work at home. Mostly they earn Rs.1500 to Rs. 2000. Per—month for there family. Many girls was without sewing machine, they requested me for self use sewing machine and I requested to the CONCERN for this need. I would like to thank to the Concern they give us fund for 5 machines, now girls are doing work at home. Last year 2008 in month of July we could stared two more new Sewing Center and there is also 20 to 25 girls coming every day for learning stanching cloths. About NFE Class
Also we are running NFE class and for rag piker children and dropout children. Many children, especially girls, are unable to attend school as they must stay home to care for their younger brother and sisters while their parents work. In this project we have 30 children and one teacher.
Children very much like to read and write and learn so many other things like songs stories, games. Last month we have distributed some gift boxes which is come from an organization, named called “ Samaritan’s Purse”, all the children are very happy and they coming every day in school.

About Adult Education
We have adult literacy class also in our project area GautamPuri. In this class 10 women and one teacher, this class is for every day from 2: pm to 4: pm. All women attending our class are totally illiterate. They go for work in the morning hours to look after their children. Their monthly earning is very low. They don’t get good job as they are not skilled and not educated. Now they come to their class regularly and learning and writing.
Only 55% women of our target area can read and write without difficulty. Out of them 40% have not any formal schooling? That’s why women are in darkness. Social custom and fundamentalism keeps women isolated. Early marriage is one of the reasons of drop-out girl children form school. Not only school dropout but also it is occurs death of women during child delivery. Some social superstitions are the barrier of freedom. Most of the case women have no right to take decision so they need to depend on the decision of her husbands. Gender discrimination is present in target area. Women are victims of Multi marriage and dowry systems. Unskilled women are another barrier of women empowerment.

More participation of community people for this Christmas Day programme is good achievement for Mercy Welfare Society.
By establishing primary Education on this colony, community people are giving more interest to send their children regularly to our school. Their human behaviour is gradually changing and they are caring more about their children better than before. They are deeply participating in our organized community meeting, children are the future of any area and they are very important part of our community.
