A non-governmental organisation based at a tiny village near Mondaicadu, one of the worst affected areas due to tsunami, has come forward to launch a ‘support scheme’ to liberate the fishermen community and others from addiction. Non-governmental organisation Athencottasan Muthamizh Kazhagam (AMK) has decided to follow the concept of the ‘traffic signal’ for the benefit of the de-addicts in Kanyakumari district. Alcoholism and drug addiction is a highly prevalent in Kanyakumari district. “It is treatable. Like diabetes, a regular treatment schedule is required,” said R.Arul Kannan, director of the NGO.
